How to create a shortcut for "Highlight Color" in QuickInsert

Question

Hi! 
 
 I would like to create a shortcut for the command " Highlight Color " in QuickInsert. In Word, I use " Ctrl + ; ". How would I do that in Studio? When I'm in Studio, I click on the File menu, then Options, then Editor > QuickInsert Toolbar. I would like to use one of the Custom commands, rename it " Highlight ", for example, and add " Ctrl + ; " in the Shortcut column. Can anybody help me with that? Please give me a step-by-step procedure. Thanks! [:D]

 Hi both, 
 I will log an enhancement request for future. 
 As a workaround if using the keyboard you can use the following method: 
 1. Select the text you wish to apply highlight colour to. 
 2. Press Alt+H, I2 to access the Insert Tag dialog box. 
 3. Press Shift+Tab to enter the tag list. 
 4. Press e.g. "A" to reach Apply Highlight Colour, and Enter to confirm. 
 This could potentially be automated using AutoHotkey as well. 
 I do believe however that Clear Formatting will work in all cases - I showed this to Paul the other day and I hope he may do a blog on it at some point which will show how this actually keeps your TM a lot cleaner (no tags) compared to when you use force on/force off (lots of hidden tags).

 I'll try again in simple language to explain my problem with the things you are doing. 
 
 The appstore provides applications for our users that have been verified by us as being safe to use 
 The appstore is free for developers to use 
 You refuse to use the appstore. This is not our fault.

 I completely agree, and it's simple for one developer to make changes and implement them without any concern at all for anyone, or anything else. But that doesn't mean you should be able to share your unverified code and applications in an environment where it would appear you are doing something supported by SDL. You are perfectly free to do whatever you like, but not in here. 
 If you wish to share your plugins with others so they can appreciate how clever you are then please do this through the SDL AppStore. Otherwise don't do it at all in here.

 In addition to the AHK related answer from Kelly, your best bet is to use one of these two plugins:

 Both of them offer the functionality you want and they also work well with the Advanced Display Filter and they are usable with any filetype which the highlight quickinsert feature is not. My preference would be Wordlight as it only does this highlighting, but if you want some fairly neat additional functionality then Wordbird is a nice tool.

 Jesse isn't an employee at RWS but he did indeed ensure that an enhancement was raised. But it has still not been implemented, probably because it's only helpful for some filetypes and only one colour anyway. The plugins above provide richer functionality, they are both free, and in Trados Studio 2021 the installation is trivial through the integrated appstore. So it's very difficult for a product manager to prioritise this enhancement above other work when the functionality it will actually provide is so inferior to solutions already available.

 Indeed you do add highlighting without adding tags. I don't think you need to write posts like this though, particularly since you are being very one-sided in your comments and not recognising why users may wish to highlight in the first place. For example, with your plugin, which I am testing since you wish to publish it on the appstore, here's a few comments: 
 
 your plugin is not free 
 your plugin doesn't retain the comments if you close the file so everything is lost if you restart Trados Studio, or just close the file and open it again 
 your plugin has no tags so it can't be used with the advanced display filter which supports filtering of colours out of the box 
 
 The addition of tags from Wordbird and also Wordlight are not really a problem because you remove the colours in one click before you save the target files. The highlighting is only intended to support the translation and review process. 
 I think we would all appreciate it if you didn't use this forum to criticise other developers who already provide plugins that are very well used and received. There is no need for it. I think it's great that you want to share your knowledge and the things you have developed, but please do it in a more professional way.
