Word compatibility

Hoping for the best after installing Studio 2017 I uninstalled Office 2007, which I had been running alongside Office 365 with Studio 2015 so that I could use the real-time preview feature. I then reinstalled Studio. Bad idea. I lost real-time previews.

I work primarily with packages from translation agencies and I have no control over how they set up projects and the file filters they use. Is there any way that I can get rid of Office 2007 and still retain previewing?

Feedback please.

  • I will have to keep Word 2007. Looking at the last paragraph of Emma's article, I see this:

Working on a Studio package prepared with the old .docx file type? The external real-time preview in Word will only work with the new .docx file type. Ask your project manager to prepare .docx files with the new .docx file type from now on.

The large Swedish agencies I primarily work with have proven to be extremely unwilling to adapt routines to anything out of the ordinary. Even in the very rare cases when I have managed to convince project managers to make changes to take advantage of earlier Studio innovations (merging files comes to mind), they have soon reverted to their old ways. Going over their heads hasn't worked either.

Another reason for keeping old Word is that I prefer having the preview in Studio. Saves me the trouble of having to rearrange Studio and Word on the screen after checking my mail, for example.
