Is Trados Studio 2017 TM with Fragment Alignment enabled backwards compatible with Trados Studio 2015?

Question

After upgrading to Studio 2017, I've tried enabling Fragment Alignment to one of my TMs. After doing its thing, TM size has grown 2,5x times. I wonder if this larger TM will be backwards compatible for users using earlier versions of Trados Studio? Can I safely enable it for my working copies of TMs?

It is backward compatible as a TM. But if you use it for other versions of Studio then the automatic fragment alignment will not be possible so you will have to go in and run the upLIFT alignment routine every now and again to keep things in synch. 
 
As always, it's worth keeping a backup TMX of your TMs at regular intervals so you can easily recreate from a simple text file if the worst comes to the worst.
