Problem making Studio 2014 work with Office 2016

Hello,

I have a question regarding the compatibility of Trados Studo 2014 with Office 2016 for I seem not to be able to make Trados work together with Word (I am speaking of searching terms in termbases within Word). Whenever I try to install the plugin I get an error message saying something like "incompatible plugin..."

Does anyone have a solution for this?

Dear Dan,

SDL Trados Studio 2014 is not compatible with Office 2016, however Studio 2015 SR2 and Studio 2017 are compatible.

Dear Guillaume,

thanks for the quick reply. This is actually really bad to hear for me since I have only been given a Trados 2014 license from my University. As a student I cannot afford the extra cost of an upgrade. Is there really no way to make Studio 2014 work with office 2016, some tweak to the plugin required maybe?

As the license you use belongs to the university, you would not be able to upgrade it.

Now I may have misunderstood something, but....
Compatibility does not extend to real-time previewing in Studio unless you are able to control project creation and consequently the way in which Word files are converted for translation in Studio. I have kept an old copy of Word 2007 on my machines just so that I can use real-time previewing. I couldn't get the feature to work with just Office 365 and Studio 2017.

Hi Joel,

This is correct. You need to be able to use the new Word filetype for your word files if you want realtime preview and don't have the full MSI based installer for Word.
