Are aligned units being updated when I delete TUs from TM (fragment enabled) or import TMX into TM (fragment enabled)?

I have a TM with fragment alignment option enabled. Please tell me if aligned TUs are being automatically updated when I delete TU from that TM or import TMX into it?

Or should I manually rebuild translation model and align TUs?

  • Hi Vilius,

You can find this information under the settings for your TM.
I believe by default, the setting to automatically update alignment is turned on in the translation settings.
The settings is called "Align new content automatically"

As long as that is turned on, you do not need to align TUs.
Also, note how the settings will tell you when you need to rebuild the translation model.
As long as it says "There is currently no need to build the translation model", then you should be fine.

See the following article for more details:

  • Hi Vilius, Jesse - it's true that the 'align new content automatically' option directs Studio to perform fragment alignment on new/changed translation content that's entered while you're translating interactively using the editor. So, fragments of translations entered that way should be available for later matching. (Note: if the new content involves lots of vocabulary that wasn't in the TM when the translation model was built, you may get a more complete alignment if you rebuild the model then use 'align translation units' with 'quick align' selected.) However, for operations that involve new/changed content for large numbers of TUs, like TMX import or Batch Edit, fragment alignment is not automatically performed. This is to ensure that those operations still complete as quickly as possible, so that you can carry on working. After TMX import, if you return to the dialog shown in Jesse's post, it will report that there are unaligned TUs, and you can use 'align translation units' with 'quick align' selected to perform fragment alignment on those TUs. In a future release we plan to have some automatic/background fragment alignment capability to assist with those cases.

    Hope that helps.
  • Just for completeness - with regard to the case you mentioned where you delete TUs for a TM, there, the effect is immediate; you will no longer see fragments suggested from the content of those TUs.
