Studio alters customized toolbar

I use a fairly small set of commands a lot, amongst them Save Target As. In order to have quick access, I created a custom tab/toolbar like so:

(note this is a new screenshot, the annoying Quick Access Bar has made an appearance since yesterday and I can't hide the damn thing).

Now I recall having had this problem before but for a long time, it went away - but it's suddenly back. Studio simply will not stick to displaying the Save Target As (again). I have added it half a dozen times in the last half hour, but every time I close a file or project, boom, it's gone:

If I find my way into the toolbar settings (which are now only accessible via the Quick Access Bar... seriously??), I find it unticked:

No matter how often I re-tick it, next time I close a file and open another, boom, it's gone. I know Studio has this thing about hiding "commands not appropriate to the context" but it's very bad form to do so erroneously (because clearly the command IS appropriate to my context), especially on a custom toolbar created by the user.

I know there is some silly-small limit on the number of commands on a custom toolbar but 7 is hardly a profusion (I believe the maximum was 9).

  • Hi Michael,

    I can reproduce this... in fact if I create a group that only contains "Save Target As" then the entire group disappears. It seems as though the problem is specific (at least) to this command.

    I'll check with the support teams and see whether this is a known issue or not.

    Thank you

  • This problem is still not solved in Trados 2019. Any customizations of the Quick Access Toolbar are changed/reset by Trados.

    This is what happens:
    If I select Customize Quick Access Toolbar... in the Editor View, add a few custom items belonging to the "Editor" category and select a display order using the buttons Up and Down, my selected order of the items is not respected when I exit the dialogue pressing OK. When I open the dialogue again and add more "Editor" items they are not added when I press OK. And when I restart Trados more of these items have been removed from QAT. This removal/reordering happens automatically and seemingly randomly. I have spent hours trying to find out what I do wrong but I have arrived at the conclusion that Trados does not respect/understand the settings in \AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\15.0.0.0\UserSettings.xml. It is very frustrating to have a customizable toolbar that cannot be customized.

    The Settings in question are in easy-to-understand XML format and are located at the end of UserSettings.xml, in this SettingsGroup:

    <SettingsGroup Id="Ribbon.QAT.Locations">

    ...

    </SettingsGroup>

    I haven't tried customizing the Ribbon yet, my priority is to have a well functioning Quick Access Toolbar with the most useful commands at hand.

    Could you please try to solve this?
