Convert old .bak (or bilingual .doc) to sdlxliff or tmx

I am trying to get an old file from Trados 6.5 into our new system, the SDL Studio 2015. The only file we have is a bilingual file with the extension .bak.

Is there any method for converting this file into an "understandable" format for the SDL 2015 version ?

  • Hello again,

Just to sum up for the record (and others like me who have to have things fed to them by the spoonfull)
    1. I saved the file as a .doc file.
    2. I went to the Welcome section in Studio and chose Translate single Document.
    3. I added an empty file based TM with correct language directions.
    4. I encountered cryptic errors, searched for them in the old file and fixed them, mostly "end of segment" tags missing.
    5. I selected all TU's in the file, changed segment status to Confirmed and saved file
    6. I chose Batch tasks and Export
    7. I switched to Translation memory view and imported the TU's into the memory.
After that all was well, TU's in place for further use.
    Thanks for your help :)
