copying only a part of source to target.

hi

my problem is to copy only a part of source line to target. l know how to do this in memoq and it is very easy. you just select the part you want and

right click on options comes and you select copy selected to target but l couldn't find this option in trados. please help mi if it is possible to do so.

    You don't need any right click in memoQ for that, you just select the desired source text, position the cursor in the target text's position where you want to insert that text and just click ctrl+shift+t, so you are using JUST ONE step instead of two, and that is actually nice. I think you should study a little more before answering like you did. I use both pieces of software and for some situations memoQ is better (in my opinion), for example when you are dealing with joining or splitting segments, in other situations Studio is better, of course. And the comparison about Word and InDesign is out of context, they are oriented for different purposes, memoQ and Studio are, both of them, CAT tools...

    I am sorry to have obviously hurt your feelings. Nonetheless the comparison of MemoQ and Studio is as valid as the comparison of Word and InDesign in terms of text processing. Different programs, different possibilities. It is exactly as you say, in some parts the way MemoQ works might be considered to be better, sometimes Studio beats MemoQ. But in the end of the day important is to have a tool to work with, which you know as perfect as possible. It seems MemoQ does fit you better - fine. But what we can't in any case is to expect OpenOffice Writer to act same way as Word does or Thunderbird to be an exact copy of Outlook and so on. There are and there will be differences between all tools. If only shortcuts would distinguish programs, we could be forced to use a software which might have been far worse than Studio or MemoQ. In my opinion it is good, that at least these two tools differ - because that way they supplement each other and I for one can do a much wider variety of work due to usage of MemoQ (for some preparation steps) and Studio (for translating).

    As for segment merging: Studio 2017 beats MemoQ, as you CAN merge always. Of course merging in some formats can be dangerous, so MemoQ simply blocks this opportunity, but if you know what you do and WHEN you do it, you can in Studio.

    First of all, you didn't hurt my feelings, you hurt somebody else's feelings and I was trying to answer a simple technical question you didn't know how to answer...Second, "MemoQ and Studio is as valid as the comparison of Word and InDesign in terms of text processing" is just like saying that we can compare Autocad and Maya in terms of 3D, look, I am, besides a translator, a CG artist, and really know about that, OpenOffice Writer and Word are practically the same, and you can expect that, InDesign IS NOT a word processing tool as Word is, but please, let's leave all this nonsense, this was about "how the hell could I do something I always do in memoQ?", you didn't know, but answered, I knew and corrected, that's all. Besides, no problem, sorry if I sounded rude, I didn't mean to. Cheers .
