I don't know for certain what the X in XMT stands for, my guess would be 'extensible'. Anyone else know?

Keep the suggestions coming, folks! I only have 145 entries so far, haven't had time to do much over the hols, been busy feeding visitors. So, as and when I have time, I'm going to simply go through the software to find further terms I feel will be useful to users. It will be a useful learning exercise for me to think out the features I don't use so often.

So, anyone out there reading this, at whatever level you are... Any term, jargon word or acronym you currently don't understand or have had trouble with in the past, or think that there's nothing out there to help new users understand something, please post ideas here or message them to me as soon as you can. I can write up explanations if you don't have time.

I'm aiming to produce an initial list for mid-January to tie in with a marketing campaign Edward Flowers of SDL is going to run in January 2017 - 'Translators talk Trados'. The aim is for translators, rather than SDL employees, to show some of the great features of Studio (demoed in Studio 2017) and talk about them in the context of their workflows and why they are important in real-life scenarios e.g. working with agencies/direct clients, so other translators can perhaps relate to them a bit better than our in-house product demos (Ed's words).

So... a list of the terms/jargon/acronyms that help the listener to understand what's being talked about is going to be useful.

A PDF version is required for promotion of the campaign but I'm hoping this will continue to grow, a 'living' glossary that can be added to as and when new terms are coined / explanations are requested. Thus, Luis Lopez has suggested an SDL hosted MultiTerm Server termbase, for working centrally on the glossary. This brings up of course the possibility of adding terms in other languages beyond English, which could be quite exciting if others were happy to take other languages on!

Let's not run before we can walk. I'm aiming initially at an International English list with International English explanations for the time being. I'll maybe be using a blog to promote or extend this; haven't blogged before and I don't want to just repeat what others have said, my aim is to promote specific quick-blast understanding, a resource that can be referred to as a dictionary rather than a series of lengthy insights from my perspective.

Incorporating the existing glossary into this is indeed logical. The initial idea was to make a list of everything that isn't there, for example names or words of jargon that have been newly created such as 'upLIFT', older SDL-specific names such as 'TagEditor', existing common words that have a special SDL Trados meaning past or present such as 'Workbench', 'engine' and the like, plus acronyms/abbreviations that are too old or too recent to be in the current glossary of the user, whatever version they're currently running.

This is a work in progress but the 'finished' list needs to be in a format that is accessible to all users. I'm initially compiling it in an Excel table because it's simple and I can realign the final list alphabetically but as I said above, an SDL hosted MultiTerm Server termbase has been suggested, plus a blog. I also think this should be ongoing and thus incorporate all new jargon and acronyms as they come into existence.
