Problem exporting TM to TMX

I have recently upgraded from Studio 2016 to 2017.
When I try to upgrade my TM, when the process is approx. 20% completed, I receive the message "There is an error in XML document (1, 1)"

The TM size is 1.3 GB.
I receive the same message, at the same stage in the process, when I try to export it to a TMX file or to re-index the translation memory.
However, the TM works perfectly when I am actually working on a project.

Two other TMs (one larger, one smaller) upgraded without any problem.
The problem occurs on both my laptop and desktop.

  • Hello Paul,
Thanks a million for your help with this - I am going to paste in some of the excellent advice you gave me - in case anyone else reads this page.
"Just search for this text in source or target “SP3 dilute exhaust gas CO, CO2, NOx sampling probe (Figure 3 only)”.

I’d also recommend you do a couple of things as this TM is getting pretty large for a file based TM.

    1. Split it into two and just keep both TMs available in your project templates.
    2. Start a new one for adding new TUs, you can add this to your project template as well.
    3. Keep a TMX back up of your TMs somewhere safe.
    4. Regularly backup the new one to TMX

That’s a lot of data to have all in one place and you don’t want to have to deal with something more serious than what just happened in the future. Working with multiple TMs is simple enough and if you share the TMs with your partner then maybe think about adopting the sort of process I wrote about here:

    multifarious.filkin.com/.../"
  • Thanks Diarmuid,

Perhaps just to clarify part of what you have posted. The reason for searching for that text was because I used a SQLite editor to find a TU that was missing the source content altogether. I then copied target to source in the SQLite editor and this allowed me to export to TMX in Studio.

I used this editor for the SQL:
