Currently, the Chars column only show character count for entire subtitle segment. Often is more useful to see char count for each line - like "32/47".
This could be implemented as an additional column, the user could then decide which value they want to see.

This has actually already been done in the next release... with any luck due to be published very soon. The bold red/green is customisable and dynamic so it reacts to the number of chars/lines you actually use in the target in real time:
