Trados Studio crashes constantly and for apparently no reason when translating SRT files

Dear colleagues,

Every time I translate SRT files in Trados Studio, after a while of work (or sometimes even when I just confirmed the first segment), Trados crashes, freezes and closes.

This crash usually happens just after confirming a segment, but it has also occurred while I was just modifying a segment. I looked up on the Internet to see if anyone else has had the same problem, but I could not find any help.

My Trados version is Trados Studio 2022 SR2 - 17.2.11.19134, and I do not use the Subtitling plugin (the cons of using it outweighed the pros).

I translate several other filetypes in Trados, but so far, I only have had this recurrent problem with SRT files, so I guess it might have something to do with it. I already tried repairing Trados installation, but this buggy behavior keeps happening.

Does anyone know what could I do to prevent this behavior?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Kind regards,

Manuel

"Question improvement suggestion": Please provide more information about your operating system and any recent changes to your system or software. Also, if there are any error messages when Trados Studio crashes, please include them in your question.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello Manuel,

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with Trados Studio crashing when translating SRT files. Here are some steps you can take to try and resolve this issue:

Step 1: Ensure that your Windows is up-to-date. You can check for updates manually from the Start button, type 'Check for Updates' and select the option offered in the search window. Install any updates found and restart your computer. Repeat this until there are no other updates.

Step 2: Try repairing your Trados Studio installation. You can find instructions on how to do this in the article titled 'Repairing your installation of Trados Studio'.

Step 3: Check that you have the .NET Framework 4.7.2 (or later) installed. If not, please install it.

Step 4: Refresh your .NET Framework installation. You can do this by typing 'Turn Windows features on or off' in the Start button and following the instructions provided.

Step 5: If the crash can be reproduced at a specific segment, check if your Translation Memory (TM) or Termbase is corrupted. You can do this by disabling one by one the TMs and Termbases and checking if the crash persists. If the crash does not occur anymore after a TM or Termbase was disabled, it is corrupted and has to be recreated.

Step 6: If your translation resources are not stored locally, on your computer, but are on a shared drive, network or cloud-based file-sharing storing facility like Dropbox, take the resources locally and test to see if the crashes still occur.

Step 7: Reset Trados Studio to its default settings if you suspect a problem with the installation.

If these steps do not resolve your issue, please provide more information about your operating system, any recent changes to your system or software, and any error messages when Trados Studio crashes.

I hope this answer addressed your question. If not, please reject the answer, add the question improvement suggestion information, and click the RWS Community AI checkbox on the right to try again.

  • Hello  ,

Can you please check if Trados is on the permission list of the antivirus and if it is not, please add it and see if the behavior change.

  • Hello ,

Thank you for your answer! Yes, I use Trados Studio almost every day and my antivirus (F-Secure) never interferes with Trados normal operation. Trados crashes from time to time, but it is due to other reasons.

    Kind regards,

    Manuel
