We have been testing TD14, and haven't run into this issue. This may sound obvious, but could you check for trailing spaces at the end of the GUID. In your screenshots we can't see the GUID of the publication searched for in content manger, could you add to the web client view "Copy Link" pop up. Have you tried searching by title of publication does that work?

We have complained about this lack of functionality in PubMan for a few years now. The ONE thing you really want to search for in PubMan is a publication by GUID, and you cannot. However, you can in the WebClient. So if a user gives me a publication GUID. I have to go to the WebClient. Use the Publications option on the Search tab to find it, and then select Go to Location. After I know where the publication is located, only then can I use PubMan to browse to it and open it.

Note: We do not have TD14 yet, and this search functionality has either been missing or worked not as expected for several years.

Tridion Docs 14 added publication search to the Search in the Client Tools (Pub Mgr and AuthorBridge on Browse Repository Search Tab.)

We used to use a similar process, with a few less clicks than the steps you mentioned. When a user provided a publication GUID or title. We would search it in the web client, do go to location and at this point you can just click on "Edit" which downloads a "*.3pub" file, when opened opens in Pub Manager. May save you a few steps. Thanks Akheil, and sorry for the late response. There were definitely no trailing whitespace characters at the end of the GUID. By coincidence, that's something I'm really picky about. :-)

Even if there were, I should hope the client app's search input mechanism would trim leading/trailing whitespace, in all its forms (spaces, non-breaking spaces, tabs, carriage returns/linefeeds, etc.) The exact same string was pasted into the client app and the web UI.

To test your suggestion, I used Copy Link from the web UI, copied the GUID, and pasted into PubMan's search. Search failed in the same manner.

I do get the result when searching by the publication's title in PubMan's search, so yay! But we often pass around only the GUID. (Humans tend to copy the GUID but type the title - and make typos. Silly humans.)

Not much of an update: This continues to fail with multiple GUIDs in different instances. Should I be bringing this up with Support?

Thanks to the sharp eyes of Frank G in support, we have the answer: Make an output format.

Searching publications by GUID may not actually search the publications by GUID. It does, however, appear to search the output formats associated with that GUID.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Create a publication without any output formats
2. Search for that publication's title; expected result is success
3. Search for that publication's GUID; expected result is failure
4. Create an output format for the publication and save
5. Search for that publication's GUID; expected result is success
6. Delete all output formats for the publication
7. Search for that publication's GUID; expected result is failure
