TD14SP2 Review Space MathML support

Hi! Our client requires a few equations in their documentation. In the past, they had drawn the equations into image files and embedded the images into the text. However it's not very sustainable to manage equation changes and it's very difficult to diff images. (Our customer also performs visual side-by-side changes.)

https://documentation.fontoxml.com/latest/fontoxml-mathml-215855ecb95b indicates Fonto XML does support MathML. But what does that mean to us in practice?

We have Tridion Docs 14SP2, using oXygen as the editor, and our reviewers use Review Space. A very limited subset of users will use Draft Space for minor text changes but there's no current expectation of editing MathML in Draft Space, as all primary authors are writing and implementing reviewer comments using oXygen.

If Review Space/Collective Spaces doesn't currently support MathML, is it in a newer current release or on the roadmap?

Thanks!

  • Although you can't add an equation block in Draft Space, you can add the equation block in Oxygen, then edit in Oqygen.

The process we use is to create the equation in word. We have a macro to convert the equation to MathML (or Laytex), do some cleanup, and put the MathML on the clipboard. Then paste into Oxygen where an equation block is allowed. From there, you can make minor edits in Oxygen.

Oxygen and Draft Space has very good rendering of the MathML. DITA-OT and AH v7 support the output almost out of the box.

    1. Create the equation in Word and export to MathML (a little research and you can figure out how to make this part work).
    2. In Oxygen, paste the equation from Word .
    3. To edit in Oxygen, right click on the equation and select edit equation. (for making minor edits in text view, but renders as you type)
  • Hi , thank you very much for pointing this out. I need to point out that while the rendering in Collective Spaces is intended, editing in Draft Space is not currently supported and I'm afraid it's not a good idea to use that workaround. Both for licensing reasons but also because the equation editing is happening on a test server which should not have been connected in this way. You weren't to know of course, and again I appreciate you bringing it to our attention!

However, as mentioned, a properly supported option to license this capability is coming in the SP4 release later this year. (Perhaps what you have seen is best counted as a sneak preview of that capability, though again this shouldn't be used yet in a production environment!)
