64-bit version of Studio

Please create a 64-bit version of Studio. At present only a 32-bit version is available, and therefore it can theoretically only access 2-3GB of system memory, meaning that upgrading your machine with more memory then this does not have any beneficial impact on Studio performance.

When handling large files & projects, allowing Studio access to all of your system's memory would make a huge difference in time and performance, and for this the app needs to be 64-bit.

Are there any plans to release a 64-bit version in future?

  • I would love a 64-bit version of Trados as well. It's just really not handy having a fast computer and still seeing Trados perform so slowly, especially with large files. Please consider this!

  • Yep definitely need a 64 bit version (which is in the pipeline, apparently).

A 32 bit program can only use up to 4GB of RAM, no matter how much RAM you have on your computer, so I learned today (Thanks Paul).

That means I'm waiting for autosave to do what it has to do, when the computer is not even using 33% of its RAM resources.

And yes I'm using an SSD for active projects.

    Hello,

I did ask for this on May 1st (community.sdl.com/.../sdl-trados-studio-64-bit-release) but it looks like your topic had more success :D

This is indeed absolutely needed !

A build that would properly leverage all cores / hyperthreading and all memory would be more than welcome !

Most batch tasks and a lot basic tasks such as search and replace are way too slow, even when using fast SSDs.

Navigation in the software itself is slow…

  • Meanwhile we could solve a major part of the performance problems we had with Studio 2017 when working on huge projects with numerous quick-merged files.  The solution was simple: Our SSDs had an own recycle bin and frequently copied files into them, leaving the originals unchanged.  Although the SSDs have 1 TB each, this resulted in high utilization rates of the SSDs - and, as SSDs react more sensible as other hard disks to high utilization (in some cases, only 150 GB were left), the performance of Studio slowed down. After deleting the recycle bin on the SSDs,  the problems decreased significantly despite Studio 2017 is a 32-bit version. This statement in opposite to my post dated June 1.

  • yes, i think it is desperately needed to release a  64 bit version.  there are more and more large files need to be done without being split.  and I  think one can open more files at one time to process. that would be very much convenient.
