When working on projects where the source text contains visible Tracked Changes, the pre-translation from the Translation Memory does not function correctly. Specifically, when there are insertions or deletions with tracked changes, formatting tags are unnecessarily included, even though the entire segment is uniformly formatted.

By default, Trados only displays formatting tags when they apply to part of a segment. However, with visible Tracked Changes, tags are always inserted — even when the complete segment is formatted. This results in segments being wrapped in start and end tag pairs in the source, which are not needed and are not present in a project where Track Changes are not visible.

According to Trados Support:

“You are right, when formatting is applied to an entire segment, the tags are not included in the segment. However, this is working differently for segments with Tracked Changes (no matter if these are additions or deletions). Unless the formatting was added using a paragraphs style or font style, the tags are indeed included in the segment.”

This behavior causes several issues:

• Segments with Tracked Changes are no longer 100% or Context Matches, but at best 99% Matches due to the tag differences.
• Match Repair does not always work reliably, especially for shorter segments.
• Segments are often left in Draft status, even when a 100% or CM match is shown in the TM view.
  
• Translators must manually check each segment to verify whether changes are needed, which is time-consuming and error-prone.

In larger projects, this leads to significant inefficiencies, as translators must:

• Manually inspect and adjust segments with tracked insertions/deletions.
• Add or remove unnecessary tag pairs.
• Deal with inconsistent behavior where some tracked changes include tags and others do not.

Suggested Enhancement:

• Prevent Trados Studio from inserting formatting tags around tracked changes when no special formatting is necessary.
• Ensure that segments with tracked changes can still be matched as 100% or CM, provided the content is identical.
• Improve Match Repair to handle these segments more reliably.
• Ensure that segments with valid matches and no real changes are not left in Draft status unnecessarily.

This improvement would significantly reduce manual post-editing effort and improve consistency and efficiency in translation workflows involving tracked changes.
