This idea has now been fully delivered with Trados Studio 2022 SR1. You now have the choice between a progress bar based on words and/or segments. See release notes for more information.
Please go back to Progress Bar focusing on words not segments
If I possessed this edition of Studio, I would naturally expect the progress bar to show identical information, namely segments, percentages and wordcounts, to the earlier Studio version I possess.
With kind regards and best wishes for the Christmas season,
Oh man, this is the most annoying feature in this version. To me, the progress bar indicates the effort needed to complete the translation, and the segment count just means absolutely nothing, as I can have a 1 word or a 200 word segment. RWS, please revert back or at least give us a freedom of choice.
We are running some one on one online sessions with our development team to get some direct feedback on the newManagerview in Trados Studio 2022 and this topic sits quite nicely in there as it also has a progress bar behaving in the same way as the current view. So if you're interested in making sure your opinion is considered you can apply for the opportunity here: Trados Studio Manager View - Feedback Opportunity
So far only three people have shown any interest in this opportunity which doesn't exactly strengthen any case to provide functionality not already in there.
I agree with Theodore and all the other posters- this change is really annoying and my confirmation statistics do not show words yet to be translated. But then I suppose I'm a "new" user since I've only had Trados since 2014. Clearly a large number of people find this change inappropriate considering that many like me, initially thought it was a problem in the software. I think RWS should carefully consider their target customers.
