Extra activation

I am using Studio 2021 and we have one license. My wife has been using 2019, but had to reinstall Windows 11 and now we don’t have a license key to activate 2019. What do we have to do to either activate 2019 or purchase an extra activation for 2021?

  • Thank you very much, Elisa. Two activations? The license page says I only have one, and since I have Studio 2021 activated, it says the there are "0" available. The license page also says "With: Allow Studio 2019 - Add-on". What does that mean? I have installed 2019 on my wife's computer, but it's asking for an activation code. Can you please tell me where I can get one for 2019?

    Freelance Plus versions have 2 activations by default. Both of your activations are in use. You upgraded from Trados 2019, so you won't be able to use Trados 2019 on a PC that does not have Trados 2021 installed and activated. Please note an upgrade is different than purchasing a separate license, so your license rights only extend upon Trados 2021 Freelance Plus.

    Incorrect.  Technically yes, but legally no as this would be breaking the EULA.

    The point is two activations but only one license.  So the only advice I can give you is that this is intended for you to use as follows:

    1. as a backup in case you need to install Trados Studio on another computer and you forgot to deactivate the current active licence
    2. so you can have Trados Studio activated on two computers where you are the sole user.... like a laptop (for travel) and a desktop for example.

    If you want to be able to have your wife use one while you use the other then you need two licences, not just two activations.  If you don't do that then you are breaking the end user license agreement.

    You have a Freelance Plus license.  This give you two activations.  So you activate it on your laptop, and then using the same activation code you activate it on your desktop.

    I'm sure you are not asking me the right question because you have already activated the license twice as we can see in your screenshot.  Let's go back to your original question before this got complicated!

    Was your wife using 2019 with her own license?  If she was then just create a new thread and ask for her license to be reset.  You need a new thread because we have an automated solution for raising these requests from the community and it should be related to the person who creates the thread as we pass the logged in details over to support so they know who to deal with.

  • Thanks for your help, Paul. But what I don't understand is that you say I have two activations. I was able to activate Studio 2021 on my computer, but then it says I have "0" available. When I reset the license, it said I have "1" available. In that instance I was not able to use Studio on my computer until I put in the activation code, and then the available went back to "0". I tried activating 2021 on my wife's computer, but it didn't work, because at that point it was activated on my computer and the available was "0". So it seems the only way to use 2021 on both computers is to deactivate the one and activate the other and keep switching back and forth every time. What do we have to do to be able to activate 2021 on both computers at the same time, please?

    Freelance Plus is an individual single user license and not meant to be shared, as you would be breaking the EULA.  As  already advised you, if your wife has a separate license, she should open a new thread and we will submit a case with our technical team for her in order to reset the license.

    Given you were just testing on your wifes machine I think you probably need to ask for a licence reset.  With a plus licence you do have two, and if you always have one in use even when you deactivate it means you probably forgot to deactivate in the past and the licence remains active.  If support reset this for you then you'll have two available.

    I see Elisa logged a case for you so support should be able to assist you there.
