Trados Studio 2024 Translations Results window: markup / difference formatting not shown.

When translating, the difference(s) between a source sentence from the Translation Memory and the source sentence to be translated are shown (see red circle: 'drie' comes from the TU in the TM, 'zeven' from the new sentence to be translated), but without markup (difference formatting). How can I activate this markup?

How can I resolve this?

Thanks a lot.
Screenshot of Trados Studio interface showing a translation segment with the source text 'Ik heb zeven kinderen.' and the corresponding translation 'J'ai trois enfants.' A red circle highlights the difference 'driezeven' in the source segment.

Screenshot of Trados Studio Options menu with 'Differences Options' section visible. Checkboxes for 'Show document source segment differences' and 'Show translation memory source segment differences' are checked. Examples of 'inserted' and 'deleted' content formatting are shown.

Try to go to View and Rest window layout. This could help.

  • Thank you, Jerzy. I think I cannot describe the problem better.

I'm working on an HP Probook laptop with windows 11 Pro. Version 24H2. Installed on 21/10/2024. Build: 26100.3194.
I am working with the version Trados Studio 2024 - 18.0.2.3255. There are no error messages appearing.
I added screenshots at the start.

A simplified example of what is happening:
"Let's suppose there is a sentence in the Translation Memory 'I got three children'. When I want to translate a new sentence 'I got thirteen children', I see under the Translation Results: 'I got threethirteen children', where 'three' should be red and striped out (deleted content)  and 'thirteen' should be green and underlined (added content. But this markup is not visible."

I am going to reinstall Trados Studio and hope this resolves the problem.

Have you tried to do what I suggested?

  • Yes, I did. I did this already before you suggested it and once more after your suggestion. No difference.
Now, I reinstalled Trados from scratch and updated to Trados Studio 2024 - 18.0.2.3255: no difference neither.
Thanks for trying to help me.

As this important feature works for me with the same settings, it seems something in your settings is defective. If resetting window layout does not help, we need to go further. Please do the following steps one by one until you see what you need, restarting Studio each time:

    • Go to File -> Setup -> Manage user profiles and RESET your current user profile
    • Otherwise delete the folder C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Trados\Trados Studio\Studio18
    • After doing so TS will ask you for a user profile. Do not chose any from the list, but select Browse and chose one from here C:\Program Files (x86)\Trados\Trados Studio\Studio18\UserProfiles
Overwrite the existing profile, if asked to do so

Should even this not help, I have no clue what can be causing the problem. In this case we need to involve RWS representative.

  • Hello Jerzy
I was not working in my office for the last few days.

    I tried your suggestions.

    • Go to File -> Setup -> Manage user profiles and RESET your current user profile: this didn't make any difference after restarting TS.
    • Otherwise delete the folder C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Trados\Trados Studio\Studio18:
I do not find a map called 'AppData' nor 'Roaming' under Windows 11. This is probably so because my laptop is a stand alone computer?
I did find: C:\Program Files (x86)\Trados\Trados Studio\Studio18. I think it is not wise to delete folders there.

So both your suggestions, unfortunately, didn't work.

But many thanks for your help anyway.

    Kind regards
    Arnout Horemans

Left aside the fact, that a support case has been opened for you by Paul, you as everyone else should be able to find these folders, Usually, copying the paths from here and pasting them in Windows Explorer or in Windows search field should bring you there. If not, just ask Google how to show hidden and system files and folders, and you will see them.

But better wait for the support offered by Paul.
