New installed SDL Studio 2024/unable to open files or TMs

Dear All

I pursued the upgrade from v2022 to v2024. It was declared I could use both versions. This reassured me that I wouldn't be completely out of action after the upgrade when something goes wrong. After the installation, when I tried to activate the new version, I assumed that I cannot use 2 ACTIVATED versions. I can keep the v2022 ONLY if I run the v2024 in trial mode. If I want to generate a license for v2024, I can only replace that of v2022 with this new license. So, then my v2022 probably loses its activation - I didn't dare to try - it stands in red, that this action is impossible to revert.
Actually, it would be OK, if the new version would at least work. In my case, after creating a new project I can't open files for translation, I get the error "Only docked panes may be pinned or unpinned". When I try to close the SW after this error, I get an error "Key not found: 'xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx'. Parameter name: key". Moreover, all my TMs cannot be opened as well, the error is that they are corrupted, but they work with v2022.

No idea what that is. Neither in Knowledge Base, nor in Community, there is any information about it.
I started to use Trados from 'preTrados" version (5.5 or smth, 1999) and I don't see a need to buy a maintenance or support. I only have problems with installation and the biginning of usage of SDL Studio - since 2007.

My questions are:

1. If I upgrade the licence - will I still able to use activated version of 2022?

2. Can it be that the problem is that I used my saved user profile from an older version?

3. If I will not get help here - is there any possibility to get help from RWS only for this problem?

    Could you please share a larger screenshot so I can see what you mean? TMs should be included in your projects. If you want to open a specific TM, you can do so from Translation memories view, Open Translation Memory.

  • actually, I cannot open packages from file manager. I can open them only from Welcome window>Open Project package. This is an example from package I opened this way:

    This is most likely a file association problem.  First thing to try would be a repair of Trados Studio via your control panel in windows.  That normally resolves file association problem.  If it doesn't, you can do this manually and this article might help: https://www.elevenforum.com/t/reset-and-restore-default-apps-for-file-types-in-windows-11.2139/

    thank you, the repairing of the Studio and MultiTerm helped to create the assotiations.

    I have one more problem :) I See that this was discussed a month ago, but without any answer. It is about File>Options>Editor and changing apperance of Translation results window. I managed to change the values 10 above and 8 below (font size), but I cannot change the formatting of difefences. I can click Change and make changes in appearing Font formatting window, but nothing happens when I close this window and touch OK.Options menu showing Translation Results Window settings with examples of inserted and deleted content formatting. Font Formatting window is open with style and color options visible.

    I recorded a short video to confirm it works for me in the current production release... doesn't help you I know, but does confirm this isn't a general problem affecting everyone:

    I'm using 2024 version 18.0.2.3255.

    Perhaps try a proper reset to make sure you have everything set up as expected.  

    Clean install... try the following.

    First uninstall Studio.

    Now manually delete these folders if they are still there (back up your TMs, Termbases, AutoSuggest Dictionaries and Projects first in case you make a mistake):

    c:\ProgramData\Package Cache\Trados\TradosStudio2024\
    c:\Program Files (x86)\Trados\Trados Studio\Studio18\
    c:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Trados\Trados Studio\18\
    c:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Trados\Trados Studio\Studio18\
    c:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Trados\Trados Studio\18\
    c:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Trados\Trados Studio\Studio18\
    c:\Users\%username%\Documents\Studio 2024\Project Templates\
    c:\Users\%username%\Documents\Studio 2024\Projects\projects.xml

    I think that's about it for a clean install. Then reinstall.
