Trados Studio 2015 without Autosuggest after having purchased an upgrade

I had purchased Studio 2014 and a colleague suggested that I updated the version to 2015 to be able to use AUTOSUGGEST since I complained that Studio did not have any autosuggest option.
I bought Studio 2015 online, paid $275 and the Autosuggest option is not available. I bought my previous versions at good price since I am on a developing country (Argentina), but I need Autosuggest and I don't have it.
Can you please let me know how to have access to it? Moreover, with Studio 2014 I had TWO licences (I use my desktop and my laptop) and I thought that if I upgraded my version, I would still have two licences. However, I now have one and I can not afford buying another one to be able to use my laptop and desktop. Why has this happened?

Can you please help me!
thanks!

  • Hi Steven!

Going back to this, I am seriously thinking about not buying any upgrade anymore. I am deeply disappointed at all the features that the freelance version does not have. Despite the fact that I paid the complete price (since I was in a hurry), I can not create packages, and there are many other features that won't be enabled.

I seriously do not understand why there are so many obstacles on the way. I pointed out and asked why a freelance can not create packages and I was simply told that if I want to share my project, I can email my project to any colleague without the need of creating a package. However, if I want to create a package because I believe it's an easier option, why can't I do it? Just because I am a freelancer?

As user, I am very disappointed at Studio. You are now launching 2017 but I don't think I will continue paying for the upgrades. I also admitted tht there are many users worldwide that have a cracked version (which I don't think it's ok), but they can use ALL features... I always supported the idea of buying a license, but in this case Studio has really let me down.

As I feel I am not being heard, I needed to express it here. I should ask for a refund for the upgrade since I don't think it's worth it.

    Best regards,

  • Hi Paola,

I think the answer is that Studio and Trados has always distinguished between the features normally required by a freelance translator and those required by an LSP or a larger organisation.  This has always been achieved by having a distinction between the Freelance and the Professional version.  This article explains the differences (even if it is for 2014... can't find an updated one):

I guess, in practical terms, zipping up a project is no different to creating a package.  The main differences between the two are these:

    • create a package and you can track who the files in the package are sent to
    • updating from a return package automates the updating of the project
    • creating a package supports adding of additional resources and generation of statistics

There may be other small things but in general I see these as being useful to someone who is working as an LSP or a Translation Team in a larger organisation.  Not really features for a freelance translator who might share work with colleagues from time to time.  It's really all about automation.

Why do you need to be able to create a package?  What does this do for you that you could not achieve another way?

What other missing features are there in the Freelance version for you?

    Regards

    Paul
