Moving Groupshare 2020 Virtual Machine to Azure platform

We will be moving our virtual instance over to the Azure platform this week.

I have tested it and am getting differences in the CALs and VUs in the test environment. Can someone advise the proper steps required when moving the instances over to a new environment?

Attached are the statistics I'm seeingScreenshot of SDL Trados GroupShare licensing page showing usage statistics. Project Server CALs at 20% with 1 of 5 in use. Translation Memory Server CALs at 20%, TUs in use at 134% which is over the limit of 1250000.Screenshot of SDL Trados GroupShare licensing page showing different usage statistics. Project Server CALs at 9% with 3 of 35 in use. Translation Memory Server CALs at 3%, TUs in use at 34% of 5000000.

  • Dear Customer,

Thank you for raising this in the Forums.

The CALs issue might be addressed by requesting a license reset. This KB article will help you: https://gateway.sdl.com/apex/communityknowledge?articleName=000001889.

After you have the confirmation that the Trados GroupShare license was reset, you will have to re-activate the license in the application. There are 2 ways to re-activate it:

    Offline Deactivation/Activation: https://gateway.sdl.com/apex/communityknowledge?articleName=000006334.

    Online Deactivation/Activation: https://gateway.sdl.com/apex/communityknowledge?articleName=000005236.

Migrating the Trados GroupShare instances to a new VM is something we do not recommend. And we (RWS Support) do not have a procedure for that. The normal procedure is to install the Trados GroupShare instance on the new VM and then to change a lot of .config files to point to the old SQL server.

From the above screenshots, I can see that you are working with Trados GroupShare 2017.
Please be aware that if you have an SMA (Software and Maintenance Agreement), it might get forfeited - as the above tasks are only being performed by our Professional Services team - and it comes with a fee.

My recommandation is, if possible, to contact your RWS Salesperson and to ask for a meeting with the PS team. From what I understand, you want to perform a Trados GroupShare 2017 -> 2020 upgrade with a Database migration. The PS team has the proper tools and expertise to perform these tasks.

    Best regards
