User and Call limit

Hi,

I'd like to know if there is a way to limit the calls number for a User.

I mean something like.....A user can get only one call and not more. Is it possibile?

kind regards

Luca

  • Hi Paul and Walter,
I'm sorry for my english a bit (a lot!) confused.

When you buy a GS you buy also a max number of TUs (for Example 5 Millions, so the maximum number of TUs in all the TMs stored in the GS) and a max number of Cal [Client Access License, concurrent users], for example 10 Cals.
So, when a Project manager analyse something with a TM stored in GS he/she gets a Cal or, when a FL translate a file with a TM stored in a GS he/she gets a Cal.
For external user (for example working with other LSP) I'd like limit the number of Cals that they can get. (This was possibile in TM server 2007).
Is it more clear? ....I hope, but I'm not so sure:-)

    Kind regards,
    Luca
  • Hi Luca,

No, this is currently not possible in GroupShare. But it's an area I'm looking at improving in GroupShare (the whole who is connected etc.).

How would you want to decide to limit the CALs? Based on the users role or something else? Would be great to get some input from you.

    Thanks,
    Luis

  • Hi Luis,
Is not an easy answer for me, because (and I'm sorry for this), I'm not sure how and when the cals are taken.
    same example of my doubts:
If, like PM, I use the same user account in two different PC (or maybe with 2 parallel session of studio) the cal taken are 2, right?
If, like FL, I add two different TM stored in the same GS, I take 1 or 2 Cals?
and... what is the exact release time of the cals? When I close Studio, or, when I close the files in the Editor... (i think the cals are taken when the files are open in Editor or when I'm running a batch task)

so, without the answers and with all my doubts, a first answer could be... 1 by default for each user but with a field to setup the right number if needed

    Kind regards,
    luca

The number of CALs required corresponds to the number of client processes that access the server.

As an example, if you run Studio, you use one CAL, regardless of the number of TMs and/or termbases that you have assigned to the project.
If, on the same PC, you then launch MultiTerm Desktop in addition, this will require a second CAL.
And if you use the MT Widget and configure it to connect to a server-based termbase, you're then up to 3 CALs, all from the same PC.

The CALs are released when the timeout has expired, which is configurable on the GS server.
