It’s actually quite a neat application for newbies to desktop publishing like me, but it’s a difficult tool to handle if you receive *.pub files (the format used by MS Publisher) and are asked to translate them. And I do see requests from translators from time to time asking... Read the full text.
Hi Paul, I hope you might please be able to help us with this issue. We recently noticed in MS Publisher files, when the file contains hard-returns in a TABLE, those are being stripped when we Import with pub2xml.ui.exe (soft-returns are maintained in table entries). We have been able to fix this by running a search (<r/>) and replace (<r/><n/>) in the target XML file prior the conversion to PUB. Doing so, fixes the missing hard-returns but adds an extra hard-return at the end of each paragraph. I'm attaching a small sample source file with an after XML>PUB conversion sample and a sample where I ran the search and replace. 190621_Publisher_notes.docx contains details on the process I followed. Thank you so much for your help with this, much appreciated!
