How odd as I dont think I have ever noticed this behaviour within Studio. 
As this is a known windows behaviour referred to as forward deleting - have you noticed in other environments such as MS Word? 

I believe toggling the Insert key may help. As well as Ctrl+Z to restore accidental deleted text.

If it is truly specific to Studio-  you could try resetting Trados Studio to default state by following the advice here

No, I haven't noticed it anywhere else, it has been specific to Trados. Very odd indeed.

Yes, I can recuperate the lost words with At +Z, but I still have to reboot to make it stop this behavior.

I will try reseting Trados, before breaking down and reinstalling, which I would like avoid.

There is also the issue of the occasional black screen - nothing saved - and today, it generated a return package that did not contain all of the files. Twice!  Of course, I verified that all file were included and checked. But when the client received it, they were not all included.

I am not sure that default is going to fix all of these issues....

Thank you for your help. I did the repair, as suggested. I will let you know within the next week if any more issues arise.

I forgot to mention a black screen situation the other day that led to my project list being emptied. It was a frightening moment, to say the least.

When I imported the files I had been working on, they were fine. (Big sigh).
