SDL Language Cloud does not work after upgrading to Win 10 .

After upgrading to Win 10 I loaded my TM and SDL Language Cloud and then I got the message, "No Open TM's or  Automated Translation Servers."  According to All Language Pairs - TM and Automated Translation both are ticked but SDL Language Cloud does not present any results. I'm running Studio 2014.

  • Hi Ulla,

Are you sure you have these resources available in your Project? You can get to "All Language Pairs - TM and Automated Translation" two ways. "File -> Options" and "Project Settings" but only "Project Settings" for the active project will make a difference.

    Regards

  • Hi Paul, I followed your suggestion but there is no Project Settings in Options. I’ve used one and the same TM since 2005 and I’ve been using SDL Language Cloud ever since BeGlobal was no longer available.
The Options window from right inside my active project shows that Language Cloud is ticked, and so is my TM. But still I get no translation results for my automated translation. Please advise.

  • Hi Ulla,

I didn't say look for Project settings in Options.  I said this (although I can see how this could be misread... my bad for not being more clear)

So what I meant is that you have "All Language Pairs - TM and Automated Translation" in File -> Options and you also have "All Language Pairs - TM and Automated Translation" in Project Settings.  These are two separate locations and if you change them in the wrong place it could be why you are not seeing the effect you desire.  This article might be helpful:

However, you have confirmed that your active project has LC enabled and you still don't get results, so another possibility that I have seen before is that you have "lost" your TM results window and are actually looking at the "Concordance" results only.  So maybe it's worth resetting the window layout in the View menu and this will restore all the windows including any you may have closed by mistake.  Apologies if this sounds obvious, but I have seen this happen before.

If this doesn't help maybe we can do a skype session and just take a look at what's happening on your machine?

  • Hi Ulla,

You can try to activate the Language Cloud provider. It happens that even if you have it added as a TM provider in Settings, the connection is not made to the servers. Especially if you upgraded to Win 10, the settings files that store the log-in details might have changed.

In an open project try to go to Project Settings-> Select Language Cloud-> select Settings -> Go through the Engine selection window and dictionary selection and click finish.

Check if LC is applies now.

Let us know if this worked.

  • Hi Paul, your suggestion worked. I reset the window layout in the View menu, I wasn't looking at Concordance results; then I opened the Project Settings window both ways; in the File>Options way LC was ticked, in the other it was not; I ticked it manually, then restarted SDL and then LC and TM were working fine. Thank you. Ulla
