How do you import a glossary from an xls file into a termbase?

Question

I feel very stupid for asking this, but after over an hour of searching, I cannot find out how to use this client-supplied, two-column xls glossary in Trados. I must be missing something because such a simple operation cannot be this difficult. I am using Trados 2017.

Not a stupid question at all. In the past the only way to handle this was to use MultiTerm Convert and the process you would go thorugh would be to convert the Excel to an XDT (termbase definition file) and an XML (contains the terminology); then create the termbase in Multiterm with the XDT and then import the XML. So quite an onerus process. 
 
Today you have two simpler options. 
 
1. Use the Glossary Converter which is a drag and drop process to get your termbase 
2. Use the Excel spreadsheet itself (saved as XLSX) as the termbase directly

Hi Rowan, 
 I'm in the same situation, the Glossary Converter fails to recognize Multiterm in my system, so I cannot use it at the moment, and I'm back to using the regular Multiterm Convert + Multiterm procedure. 
 This is an old article, but the same procedure still applies today. I hope it helps.

If you can still reproduce the problem with the Glossary Converter not working anymore and can send me your logs it would be really helpful. Logs from these two locations would be useful, just for the time you recreated the problem. 
 
SDL Trados MultiTerm 
C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\SDL\SDL MultiTerm\MultiTerm[x] (where [x] is the version number) 
Alternatively, you can open the SDL MultiTerm application and go to Tools > View log file and save the file. 
 
Application logs and System logs from the Microsoft Windows Event Viewer 
Open the Microsoft Windows Event Viewer: 
 
- Click START > Run… > type eventvwr > click OK. 
- Go to Windows Logs in the Event Viewer tree. 
- Right-click on Application and choose Save all events as... from the list and save it using the *.etvx extension. 
- Repeat the steps above for the System log. 
 
Also, if you have an explanation of what actually happens when you try it would be helpful too. Then you can send them to pfilkin@sdl.com either by email (if they are less than 10Mb when zipped) or via dropbox, googledrive, wetransfer or something similar.
