For having a *mtw format you need to use Multiterm Converter.

Can you please double check the articles I sent you. As you need Multiterm Convert to convert terminology data to MultiTerm XML format (MTF.XML).

It converts a single input file and produces a termbase definition file (XDT file) as well as the MTF.XML file.

• The XDT file is used to define the structure of your termbase in MultiTerm. 
• The XML file contains the termbase data. You populate your termbase by importing this file.

Once you have used SDL MultiTerm Convert to convert your data, you can import it into MultiTerm.

Data formats handled 

You can convert files in any of the following data formats to MTF.XML format:

• MultiTerm 5 ( MTW files). 
• OLIF XML(Open Lexicon Interchange Format). 
• SDL Termbase Desktop(TDB files). 
• SDL Termbase Online(MDB files) 
• Spreadsheet and database exchange. These files can be either tab-delimited text files (TXT files) or CSV files. 
• Microsoft Excel (XLS files). You must have Microsoft Excel installed on your computer to convert a file of this type. 
• TermBase eXchange format (TBX files).

Using this workaround is the way to have an .mtw file.

I have an excel glossary. I need an mtw file to load into a third party sw. I really can't see, how the above information helps with that. Can you please break it down for me into clear steps?

To create an MTW file, which refers to an old and no longer supported version of MultiTerm to need to have that version available to you on your computer.  If you have that then the process you would go through is this using MultiTerm Convert which is a free software available if you have a copy of MultiTerm installed on your computer.

1. Run through the wizard selecting your Excel file for conversion to MultiTerm XML
2. This process requires you have configured your Excel file appropriately
3. The resultant files will be two files used by MultiTerm to create a termbase, with the extension XML and XDT
4. Once you have these you create a new and empty termbase in MultiTerm using the XDT.
5. Then import the XML into it

That's it in a nutshell.  Before trying to provide more instructions than this can you please answer these questions:

1. do you have a copy of MultiTerm 5?
2. did you install the optional MultiTerm Convert when you installed it?
3. is MTW the only format that HyperHub can use?  Seems pretty old and perhaps something else could be better and easier to achieve... TBX for example?
4. Can we see the Excel file you wish to convert?

Thank you for taking the time to answer. No, I don't have an mtw file, and I've realized it is rather obsolete, this is why it is a challenge for me how to create one :) 
HyperHub as such is rather outdated as well. 

I guess I'd need a very old version of multiterm to create this mtw file...

Yes. Or see if Hyperhub can accept some other format.  It seems odd to accept a proprietary format like this rather than an exchange file.  I would have expected TBX or at least MultiTerm XML/XDT.  But not MTW.

This is not the only odd thing about hyperhub :-) Thank you for your help.
