You can achieve this using the layout definitions. You could have two different layout definitions in the same termbase and activate the option "Field label modification".  Then you can translate the labels that will be shown for each field.

Each translator can chose the layout theat they prefer but the data will be stored in the same fields. Only the labels will be different.

Thank you Daniel. I think this is just what I was looking for. So, as I understand it, the field labels remain the same, though I would have to choose one language over the other when I create the termbase, let´s say FR. FR translators could just display the base without any special layout definition. I would then need to create a different layout definition for EN translators in which I would modify how field labels are displayed (EN names). Right? When I do exports and imports, would the active layout definition interfere in anyway (let´s say I have a FR layout and I am importing content exported from a base with EN layout active)? I don´t think so but would like to maker sure. Thanks for your help. Much appreciated. Beatriz 

Yes, exactly. It works you said.

You could create the termbase with the field names in French and then a layout with the labels in English or the other way round.

Regarding the export of the content, that should not make a difference, as you say.

However, I have worked long enough with SDL products as to advice you to test that scenario yourself before going into production. Things do not always work as one would expect or as described in the documentation. :)

Hello Daniel. I just tried to create a custom layout and change the field names to have an English interface of an all French-labelled termbase as you had suggested. However, from what I see, I can only change the field labels (like Client, Subject, Project...) but not the field values themselves (the list of clients or subjects). Do you know if there is a way to do that or will I have to create a completely different termbase just in English? That would be problematic if the translators want to exchange terminology since their field names and values won´t be the same. Thanks in advance.

I don't think you can use labels for the values themselves.

You would have to use some workarounds. You could have multiple values in different languages. In the drop-down list you would have as Subject: "Economía" and then "Economics" and each translator would choose the version they wanted.

Or you could agree with them to use a common working language for the field values.

As a last resort, you could make the values Multilingual. instead of two different values, you could have one called "Economía/Economics."

None of this is really a clean solution. Choosing one language as common working language for these values would be the best option, I think.
