The MultiTerm .mdf file has ballooned to 650Mb in size for my Termbase (using MultiTerm and Studio 2019). What should I do?

I noticed that one of the .mdf files for my TermBase has exploded in size from around 500 kb to 650 Mb (!) in the course of a few days. Any bright suggestions other than exporting the contents of that Termbase into new one and then deleting the files from the old one?

  • What activities have you need doing with your TM in these days?

You could delete all the files apart from the sdltb and just reopen the sdltb afterwards.  All these files will be recreated... is it still 650 mB when you do this?

It might not even be a problem... so just talking around this question.

  • Hi Paul,

the first I was aware of it was when I got a warning that there was a folder with a very large file in it - I had been translating as per usual (well as per usual subject to currently prevailing conditions...). Deleting the other files has seen the new file with the same name back down to 470 kb. And I have used the SyncCenter to ensure that it doesn't try to copy the 650 Mb file back.

I seem to now be having the problem that while I can add a term to the MultiTerm Termbase as I go in Studio 2019,  MultiTerm 2019 then doesn't allow me to edit the term. I've disabled the MultiTerm widget to try to have one less source of interference on that front. I wonder if part of the problem boils down to MultiTerm and Studio 2019 being out of sync.

    15.2.0.1041 (SDL Studio 2019)

    and

    15.0.4.56053 (SDL MultiTerm 2019)

The problem is that at the moment I have no technician access to have updates done/synced within our IT environment (due to hermetically separated parallel teams and remote working as a consequence of Covid-19) Currently I would have to courier my laptop to work for my technician to do an installation, and I would not be allowed into the building when he is in).

I might have more chance of success with updates when Studio 2021 is released.

    Thanks, Mike

  • Our technician was able to do remote updates and all is running smoothly apart from the German.mdf file has ballooned again - this time to 2 Gb (triggering a crazy load of IT Support mails). Will delete the files as suggested by
