Multiterm is not working - "A connection to SDL MultiTerm Server unknown could not be established. Please check your connection settings."

I can't open or create a termbase. Also Studio says 'no open termbase' and I can't add new terms.

  • Thank you for replying! Here is the information you ask for plus a bit more:

Sample termbase: C:\Users\[YourUserName]\Documents\Studio 2019\Termbases. There is no 'termbases' folder in my Studio 2019 folder. Only 'autosave', 'project templates', 'projects', 'upgrade translation memories'.

Create termbase: When I click 'create termbase' I get a window 'save termbase'. When I press 'save' I get this error message: Oject reference not set to occurrence of an object

    Further information:

    - I have tried "reset window layout" in both Multiterm and Studio.

    - I have run the repair I found on the SDL community (renaming Multiterm15 to _OLD and repairing Multiterm desktop in control panel)

    - I have uninstalled and reinstalled both Multiterm and Studio

    - Studio: Termbase viewer says 'no open termbase' but I can see my terms in the Term Recognition window.

  • ok,

    2 more things:

I believe the sample termbase can be on your drive depending on your choices when installing MultiTerm. Here you have it attached. Please save it to your hard drive, try to open and post the result.

    Leadernet.zip

When you get your error message after trying to save, post the stack trace. The link https://community.sdl.com/product-groups/translationproductivity/w/customer-experience/4159/01-get-help-quickly-in-the-community-technical-forums show you how to do it.

  • @jesus prieto

Thanks again for your reply :-).

I ran the leadernet file and it opened Multiterm with a message - but NOT an error message, so there was no save icon to create the stack trace.

I copied the text. See below:

  • ok, try to open that termbase from MultiTerm itself. To do so, in MultiTerm, go to File > Open termbase, click the Browse button to select the sample termbase. If any error, please post the stack trace.

Has MultiTerm ever worked for you? Did you do anything especial before it stopped working?

Also, you said that Trados Studio and MultiTerm were both updated. Could you please ensure these are the builds?

    ⯈ SDL Trados Studio 2019 SR2 - 15.2.8.3007

    ⯈ SDL MultiTerm 2019 - 15.0.56482

You can check them in Help > About.

    Last check:

Have you got a Trial version? If so, MultiTerm is not included.

Have you got a Starter Edition? This has some limitations as you can read here: https://www.sdltrados.com/products/trados-studio/editions-comparison.html#140055

Unrestricted use of MultiTerm is included in Freelance and above licences.

I hope it helps, because now I'm really running out of ideas…

  • @jesus prieto

    To answer your questions first:
    1. Multiterm has always worked fine. I have used SDL Studio since the 2011 version without any bother.
    2. I have: Studio 2019 SR2 - 15.2.8.3007 and Multiterm 2019 - 15.0.6.56482
    3. I don't have a trial or starter version. I have a fully paid-up freelancer version of 2019.
    4. I would update to 2021 but am worried that the problem will persist. And I shouldn't really be having problems with such a recent version.

  • PS: I answered this below but forgot to say that I got the error message before I even got to "browse". It popped up when I clicked File>Open termbase.

  • @jesus prieto. Thanks for the tip. Do I need to write to directly? Or can you send him the thread?

  • Hello

This looks as though the MultiTerm settings have become corrupted -

-when this happens- uninstalling and reinstalling rarely helps, as the cause of the corruption isn't rectified normally.

Please follow the steps here and this should resolve the problem

  • Thanks for the speedy reply! I have actually already tried this as I found the proposed solution on the SDL community earlier. I tried:

    1. Resolution 1 again. No luck. Same error message at 'open termbase. I restarted my computer after this and that didn't help.

    2. Resolution 2 is only if I couldn't find the files and folder paths, I believe?

    3. Resolution 3: I'm not connected to a VPN.

Here is the stack trace I have just received:
