Multi termbases possibility to decide where the entries should go to

When using several terminology databases that differ in terms of subject area (e.g., statistics and medicine), an expression is entered from the editor in SDL into the database that was selected first. In SDL, under termbases, this is the top database (default).

Let us assume, for example, that the statistics database was selected as the first database, so a medical expression is now entered in the statistics database, although it has no business being there.

The possibility to control the entries individually during translation is not possible within the translation program. To do this, you have to open Multiterm, but even here you soon can't get out of the chaos if you have several databases open at the same time. And to make the chaos perfect, you have to consider the client’s terminology database.

A solution to this would be to record the new expressions separately and assign them later. Selecting only one database in the editor has the disadvantage that the technical terms of the second subject area are not displayed. Unless you search for them separately.

Another solution would be to create a special database in Multiterm that is project- or client-related. Of course, you would then have to export this again and assign each accordingly to the correct database, but this is time-consuming because usually the next project is already waiting to be processed. The result is that you have several mini-databases that only eat up storage space on your PC. In addition, you can never find the terms again so quickly and you get annoyed that you have translated certain recurring phrases and terms so often.
