Trados crashes when adding a Korean term to the termbase.

Trados crashes when I add a Korean term to the termbase.

I've tested with the same conditions on an English-to-Russian language pair, and it works without any errors.

The crash only occurs with the English-to-Korean language pair.

As shown in the video, the document language is correctly set to English-to-Korean, and the termbase language is also correctly matched to English-to-Korean.

Question improvement suggestion: Provide the exact version of Trados Studio you are using, as well as the operating system and its version. This will help in diagnosing the issue more effectively.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello,

It seems you're experiencing a crash in Trados Studio when adding a Korean term to your termbase. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

    **Step 1:** **Check for Updates**

Ensure that your Trados Studio is up to date. Go to the application and check for any available updates. Installing the latest updates can often resolve unexpected crashes.

    **Step 2:** **Repair Your Installation**

If the issue persists, consider repairing your Trados Studio installation. You can do this by going to the Control Panel, selecting Programs, finding Trados Studio, and choosing the repair option.

    **Step 3:** **Verify .NET Framework**

Make sure you have the .NET Framework 4.7.2 or later installed on your system. If necessary, refresh your .NET Framework installation by following the steps outlined in the troubleshooting guide.

**Step 4:** **Check for Corrupted Termbase**

Since the crash occurs specifically with the English-to-Korean language pair, it may indicate a corrupted termbase. Try recreating the termbase as follows:

    - Open MultiTerm Desktop.

    - Create a new termbase with the same structure as the old one.

    - Import your old termbase data into the new one.

**Step 5:** **Test with Local Resources**

If your translation resources are stored on a network or cloud, try moving them to your local machine and see if the crashes still occur.

    **Step 6:** **Reset Trados Studio**

If you suspect that the installation might be problematic, consider resetting Trados Studio to its default settings. This can help resolve issues related to configuration.

If after following these steps the problem continues, please provide the exact version of Trados Studio you are using, as well as your operating system and its version. This information will be crucial for further assistance.

I hope this answer addressed your question. If not, please reject the answer, add the question improvement suggestion information, and click the RWS Community AI checkbox on the right to try again.

Why?  We still have no idea what version of the products you are using, if the termbases you tested against are the same one with multiple languages or separate termbases where you may have a problem with the one you tested.  Can you validate this with a brand new English-to-Korean termbase and then attach the same new termbase for us to test against?

  • I meant the AI's answer was superficial because it offered generic solutions like checking for updates, resetting, or creating a new TB, instead of addressing specific errors. I apologize if that sounded harshSweat smile updating the .NET Framework seems like it's worth a try.

The version I'm using is Trados Studio 2022 SR2 - 17.2.12.19268. It's not a computer issue, as the same problem occurs on my laptop.

Here is the process I used to test it:

    1. I created a new Russian-English project.

    2. I created a new Russian-English TB and linked it to the project.

    3. I added a term.

    4. No error occurred with the Russian-English TB.

    1. I created a new English-Korean project.

    2. I created a new English-Korean TB and linked it to the project.

    3. I added a term.

    4. As you can see in the attached video, Studio crashes immediately upon adding a term in the English-Korean TB.

I've attached a thread below where someone is experiencing a similar problem. It looks like updating to 2024 solves it. I'll give it a try. Thanks for the answer!

It didn't sound harsh... just incomplete and doesn't help get a better response.

When working with terminology the version of Trados Studio alone isn't enough.  Do you have these both installed:

    Trados Studio 2022 SR2 - 17.2.12.19268
    MultiTerm 2022 SR2 - 17.2.5.2838

I can't test in 2022, had to remove as much as I could from my laptop to focus on other things so I only have 2024 installed these days.
