Working TM

I'm translating a document and I have just realised that the working TM, that is the TM of the document itself does not respect the order of the segments in my target docuement (from 1 goes to 4 and from there to 8... etc:). I am very worried...What have I done wrong? I confirm the segments after translation but very often I have to go back to them for corrections and upgrading. This means for instance that  segment 2 can be confirmed after segment 10...and so on. Is that the reason? How can I see the TM in the right order? Help please!

    Me again!

    Do you mean that you'd like to see the translation units in the TM laid out in the same order as the segments in the document? Studio calls the working TM the 'Project TM'.

    Translation units are added to a TM in the order in which the relevant segments are confirmed in the document. When a translation unit is added to the TM, it is allocated a number consecutive to the last unit that was created, and the translation units stay in the order in which they were first created, regardless of whether they are corrected or used again for future translations.

    The TM doesn't need to be in the same order as the document. If you have a 'main' TM that you confirm all your translated documents to as you work, it will contain input from many documents and grow in size each time you use it.

    Good morning Alison, happy to hear form you again and thanks for your answers! The issue is that I wouldn't "like to see" TU laid out in the same order as they are segments in my translation but I thought this was the configuration of a TM as default. The customer requires also the TM of the document as tmx file and I was afraid I did something wrong with it. To this purpose, in addition to other memories (main and reference memories), I create each time a new single memory only for that project. So, in order to have the same order I've understood that segments are to be confirmed in the same order as they are. What I still consider very strange is the numbering of TU in the TM: it is so different from that of the segments, I have translated 46 segments and the TU go to 66! and numbers, of course, are not at all consecutive, they jump from 40 to 43 or from 3 to 8...why? Is there anything in the TM setting that I have to look at and change when I create a TM? Would you please tell me wichich is the right configuration of a Project memory: I set it as: Enabled, Concordance and Update. Is it correct?Have a nice day, thanks.

    Hi Maria,

    Your project memory will work absolutely fine with those settings.
    Project memory = working memory specific to the project you're working on.
    Most if not all translators use a main memory as well as a project memory to record everything they translate for later use. I use one per client as often their sentences are repeated.

    Here's what those settings mean:
    Enabled: means that the memory is going to be used on the job you're working on
    Lookup: means that Studio will search what is already in the memory so you can use it again in the job you're working on
    Penalty: no need to use this
    Concordance: means you can manually search the memory using the Concordance window in Editor
    Update: Means that every segment you confirm is updated to the memory, either as a new TU (translation unit) or as a correction/change to an existing identical TU.

    If you want to know more, go the the Memory window in Project settings and click 'Help', it will take you to the Help relevant part of the Studio & MultiTerm help database.
