What can happen sometimes- when a translator receives a PPX- they will (unwittingly?) unzip the PPX outside of Studio- save the components to their desktop then create their own 'project' in Studio. (by this stage the PPX is broken and a return package cannot be created as none was uploaded in to Studio in the first place).
However saying that - very little is actually contained in the RPPPX (return package) except the SDLXLIFF and project xml.
Therefore you can update your TM with just the SDLXLIFF.

I'm wondering whether you are the translator or not but it doesn't matter.

One way to update your memory is to go to the Translation Memories window in Studio, click 'Open Memory' then navigate to the memory you wish to update. Click 'open' then when it is open, right-click in the left hand pane and left-click 'Import' in the dropdown menu as here:

Then click on 'Add files' and navigate to the SDLXLIFF file wherever you worked on it or saved it (if you don't know then in Studio go back to the file in the Files window, right-click and select 'Explore containing folder' then click on and highlight the whole of the address line at the top of the window that opens and copy and paste that address to the address line at the top of the Import navigation window).

Then double-click on the file you want to Import to the memory, or single click and click Open. Then in the Import window, click Next>Next>Finish.

I hope I've explained this enough, I don't want to state the obvious if you already understand this much.
