I got an error Could not find file: {path to file}. That's why I cannot create return package.

Hello! I have the following issue: I got Trados package to translate. When job is done I am trying to create Return package to send to Project manager, but I got an error Could not find file: {path to file}. That's why I cannot create return package. Thank you!!!

  • Hi Lera,

Steve's right, whatever the reason you can't create the return package, you can use the SDLXLIFF to update your memory.

You can then send your client the SDLXLIFF file and they can use it to update their memory and generate a translated original format file. If they want to, they can put it back into their project by replacing the untranslated Target SDLXLIFF in the target language folder of the project with your translated SDLXLIFF, via Windows Explorer. Then when they open the project in Studio, they'll be able to see your SDLXLIFF as part of their original project.

  • Thank you, Alison! But how can I manage to use an option "Update from Reviewed Target file (Retrofit)". Is it possible to do out of Return package using only sdlxliff?
  • Hi Lera,

I'm wondering whether you are the translator or not but it doesn't matter.

One way to update your memory is to go to the Translation Memories window in Studio, click 'Open Memory' then navigate to the memory you wish to update. Click 'open' then when it is open, right-click in the left hand pane and left-click 'Import' in the dropdown menu as here:

Then click on 'Add files' and navigate to the SDLXLIFF file wherever you worked on it or saved it (if you don't know then in Studio go back to the file in the Files window, right-click and select 'Explore containing folder' then click on and highlight the whole of the address line at the top of the window that opens and copy and paste that address to the address line at the top of the Import navigation window).

Then double-click on the file you want to Import to the memory, or single click and click Open. Then in the Import window, click Next>Next>Finish.

I hope I've explained this enough, I don't want to state the obvious if you already understand this much.

    Hope it helps,

    Ali

  • Thank you for explanation. But the issue is still ongoing, translator cannot create Return package because of error. I know that I can update TM via TM manager in Trados. But there is the way I work with translator - I send him a pakcage,he has to send me Return package.
  • Hi again Lera,

Firstly, the package has to be correctly created via 'Create Project Package' and everything the PM wants back from the translator has to be included.
Then it has to be correctly opened by the translator from within Studio via 'Open Package' to create a project from which, after translation, the return package can be generated via 'Create Return Package'.
If any of these don't happen as they should (which can sometimes be caused by a file error rather than a human error) then you have to cope with using just the SDLXLIFF.
The best way to achieve a return package would be to repeat the whole process again as above, replacing the untranslated SDLXLIFF with the translated one via Windows Explorer after 'Open Package' step has been completed, and hoping that would not prevent the 'Return Package' step.

Does that explain what you're asking?
    All the best

  • Yes, dear Alison, this reply creates more sense for me in this situation. I have what to think about :)
    Thank you so much!
  • Hi Lera,

I'm glad I figured out which steps you needed to understand. It was a deeper explanation of what Steven suggested.

I hope it works for you!
    All the best
