How to change the language of my target column

How do I change the language setting for my target column?

Mine is currently set to French for a project I've already started working on, but I need it to be in English.

Can I change this? If yes how?

Thanks a bunch!

  • Hi Lisa,

Can you elaborate a little on what you mean here as I'm not sure I'm going to answer this correctly?

First of all, if you have opened a file for translation then it's too late to change the language. You need top prepare the project again with the right languages.

If you really mean how do I change the default language for working with the single file workflow then you do this under File -> Options -> Editor -> Languages. But again, you can't change the language of a file you are already working on.

Having said this, you could take a copy of the sdlxliff, then rename the language code in the sdlxliff you are working on in a text editor and finally open the sdlxliff as a new project. Maybe that's what you want to achieve?

There are probably a number of different ways to do something similar, but perhaps you can elaborate on your requirements a little?

    Regards

    Paul

  • Thanks for your answer Paul! I know this is a newbie question... This question came up on my very first use of the software!

Indeed it was for a file on which I was collaborating and the original translator had already set up the working languages. The target column, which was English text, was all underlined indicating spelling mistakes because his original set up had the target set to French.

I guess there's no way to run a spell check in the correct language when this happens (in this case, could I have run an English spell check in the target column)?
