Upgraded to Studio 2015 SR3 5262 but unable to launch the program. Please help!

I've just upgraded from 2015 SR2 to SR3, but after "successfully" installing SR3, I couldn't launch the program. Here's the error message:

There is a problem with the installation. Studio cannot be run. If the problem persists you will need to re-stall Studio.

I've tried to re-install SR3 but still had the above error. I then uninstall Studio via Windows 10 manager, reinstall SR3 but FAILED again!!! That error message is still there. I really need help. I have a project to deliver in a few hours and now I couldn't do anything. Please help!

Hi Angela,

Just in case if you failed again, I managed to make Studio SR2 back and it is now working. I uninstalled SR3 and reinstalled SR3; this didn't work. So I uninstalled SR3 and reinstalled SR2, and finally got everything back! Good luck, Angela.
I'm still waiting for answers from the team, though.

Hi all,

Thank you for reporting the issue, we have now pulled the installer while we understand what is happening and will re-release SR3 soon.

In the meantime, to get you going again, uninstall SR3 and download SR2 from here if you don't have the installer files anymore:
downloadcenter.sdl.com/.../SDLTradosStudio2015_SR2_5082.exe

Hallo Holger, I have the same problem. I uninstalled SR3 and when I tried reinstalling SR2, a message informed me that setup had detected a higher version of the product already installed. I then realized that there was another item to uninstall: "SDL Trados 2015 SR3 - Remove Suit of products". I tried proceeding with the uninstallation but I was asked to deactivate my license. Now my question is: how can I deactivate it if Studio did not open after installation of SR3 and if I uninstalled one of the two components of SR3? Actually I have no way to open Trados Studio to deactivate my license and I do not know what to do. Can Anybody advise? Thank you. MC

Hi all,

We have now released a small tool to fix the issue when you have SR3 installed and it's not launching.
Find instructions and download on our KB here: gateway.sdl.com/communityknowledge

We will then aim to re-release SR3 tomorrow with this fix included.

Apologies yet again from everyone at SDL for all the inconvenience caused. Please rest assured we will make sure this does not happen again in the future through a review of our processes.

Holger, make sure SR3 is completely uninstalled. It may be still lingering. Check with Windows Key + E, then click on "Uninstall or change a program" (Sorry, if I'm telling you something you already know). It might be still there ("SDL Trados 2015 SR3 - Remove suite of products"). It happened to me. I'd thought I had uninstalled it. After I actually removed it completely I was able to reinstall SR2 again with no issues.

Hi Mariacristina,

I saw that same message which also says that if you plan to re-install Studio on the same computer you don't have to deactivate your license. I've got my SR2 version up and running now without having to do anything about the license :)

Hi All,

Please note that you do not have to remove SR3 now. You can use the small tool here to fix the problem:

community.sdl.com/.../40469

There will also be a new version of SR3 released later today which will install correctly.

Just tried to install the rebuilt SR3 (downloaded from FTP, file has today's timestamp), but it failed.

Are you sure it was properly tested?

Hi Evzen Polenka ,

You are jumping the gun a bit here. There is indeed an SR3 installer on the FTP (time-stamped today), but that installer is not available in anyones account. There is no SR3 build ready (yet) to be deployed to customers so you are probably picking on something that was made ready but not deployed until we completed the final testing..

I don't know why there is an installer on that FTP site, but you should only use download links that are provided in your SDL account.

Best to wait until we make an announcement on this.

Well, the point is that by the nature of my work I don't actually have any own license (I'm working with my "client's" network license... and naturally, I don't have access to their account bound to the license), therefore I don't see any downloads in my account. The SDL account system doesn't seem to be prepared for such cases....
So I simply rely on files/info available in a different ways.

I was aware of that... but useful you pointed this out so we can change the process just in case someone is trying their luck in this way. This is definitely not intended to be released until we make it available in the accounts.

On the error, this does look a little like this one: gateway.sdl.com/.../communityknowledge
But we'll check it anyway just in case. Or maybe the download was incomplete in some way?

Best to wait until we announce it anyway.
