Key not found

Hi,

I finished translating a file and when I was going to export it and send it to the client (20 minuties before the agreed time) I get an error message. Now the file appears as 100% translated but I cannot open it. I sent the sdlxilff it to the client and it was empty. Finally I had to redo the work in Word since Trados was not helping. Ths tranlation was niot saved to the TM either. What is the mistake? Whenever i TRy to open the file it says "Key not found. Nombre del parámetro: key"

I hope you can help me with this because I might have lost a client today and this is not acceptable.

  • Hi ,

There seems to to be a number of problems here that may be related to inexperience with the software... may not... so please bear with me.

First, if the translation showed 100% and the file you sent was empty then it sounds as though you sent the SDLXLIFF from the source folder as opposed to the target.

Secondly, if your Tm was empty and you are sure that you updated your work into the TM as you worked, then perhaps you are using a Project TM and then looked into your Main TM to find nothing?

Good to see the full error message (you can attach to the post as an xml file) and know what version of Studio you are using.

    Regards

    Paul

  • Hi Paul,

Thanks for your answer. I have Trados Studio 2015. I got it last year and am learning on my own, so I am not quite an expert yet. You are right about that.

The problem with the TM is solved, I realized the updating option was not checked.

But the problem with the file seems to be something with the program itself. After sending my previous message, I was unable to close the program, so I closed it with the task manager, and when I opened it again, there was my project and this time I was able to open it and all my work was there, I was able to export it and everything was fine. But earlier that morning, with my client on the phone, I did not think that could be the solution: just close and open the program again. It is something silly, but this should not happen when we are dealing with short deadlines...As I said yesterday, I still do not know if this client is going to call me ever again, because the whole thing caused a 40 min delay in a press release.
  • Thank you, Lucia and Paul, for this helpful little thread here! !(^^)!

I just ran into pretty much the same kind of problem: While I was able to generate an Excel translation (for which translation progress, although complete in reality, was displayed as somewhere midway), when trying to generate the target translations for two other Word files (1 doc, 1 docx) in the same project, first the processing dialog wouldn't even open, and then I couldn't even reopen the sdlxliff files, because the program said it couldn't find the keys...

Very fortunately, as I was reluctantly preparing to search dozens of pages for appropriate key words and solutions, I immediately found this thread here, and the solution was indeed as simple as just closing Studio (15) and opening it again! Wow!!!

You two really saved my day (or rather coming night) after a one-night-plus-half-a-day session! Thanks again, and God speed you! :)
  • Hi Ralf,

I am really glad to know that this actually helped someone!
