Use Trados Studio 2017 to proofread English Monolingual editable PDF?

I have a huge English PDF (editable) to proofread. I'm thinking the best way to do it is this:

Step 1.) Pull the text into Word 2007 (which is what I'm using - otherwise I could use the PDF editing functions in later versions of Word);

Step 2.) Apply proofreading tools and check;

Step 3.) Open a Trados Studio 2017 project - the PDF as a single file;

Step 4.) Copy source to target throughout, making changes where they're made in the Word document after Step 2;

Step 5.) Save Target As.

ONLY STEP 4. seems like a hassle. Does this seem like the best approach to you? Any other ideas? Any problems with this plan?

Tnanks in advance!

  • Hi John,

    Based on your steps I don't now why you need steps 3-5 at all?  You've already made the changes in Word so why bother with Studio?  If you're after the formatting in the PDF and would like to return a PDF then maybe do this:

    1. Open the PDF in Studio

    2. Close Studio

    3. You'll find a Word file in the same folder as the PDF. Do what you need on that.

    If you want to use Studios verification as well as you proofing tools in Word then maybe this:

    1. Open the PDF in Studio

    2. Copy source to target and save target file

    3. Proofread in Word

    4. Retrofit the proofread word file back into Studio

    5. Check, accept changes and save the target file

    Or something like that...

    Regards
