How can we translate only red coloured text from an Excel file?

Dear all,

We have an Excel file with several sheets, where the text we need to translate is coloured red (the rest is black or white). The original Excel file has already hidden lines and columns and we need to return the file in the same structure.

Is there a possiblity to only import the red text to Trados? We use Trados 2015. In the settings you can select a colour for not importing certain texts, but white and black are not among the options.

I tried to use search and replace in Excel to replace the white and black colour with blue, but somehow Excel doesn't find all occurences in the file, so I would have to manually look throught the file and change it. Is there another way?

    Hi Sara,
    Here is what I usually do to translate red-ink inserts in Excel files:
    1. Hide other sheets if they don't need translation (if any).
    2. Import your file into Trados.
    3. Select all segments from 1st through last (by clicking their numbers) and copy source to target (Ctrl+Insert) so that all segments, including those pre-translated (if any), are overwritten with source.
    4. Lock segment by segment if its color is other than red (or a segment does not contain translatable red-ink inserts).
    5. Once a red segment or fragment is reached, translate it and confirm. **
    6. Once done, unhide other sheets (if any).
    **BTW, I would appreciate if anybody knows the shortcut for confirming a segment without saving it in TM (if it exists) to ensure that all repetitions auto-propagate but not added to TM.
