Adding files to existing project

Question

Hi, 
 I am working on a large project, which I started with only part of the files. As the file come in from the client, I add to to the project with the add file button, do the batch tasks on the new document - but then can't open it for translation in the project (the option is greyed out). Only if I click on the file and then "open with Trados" can I open it in the editor, but then it opens outside to the project I want it to belong to - making things messy. 
 Any Ideas about how to open for translation and keep it part of the same project? 
 And is there anyway I can move one project into another (consolidate them)?

If you add files to an existing project then this is the process: 
 
1. Add files or drag and drop in the files view 
2. Right-click on the files and prepare them for translation using the Batch Tasks 
3. Switch to the target language in the navigation pane on the left

Hi Francis Lambeets , 
 
After adding your files you have to prepare them for translation by running the appropriate "Prepare" batch task. Once you have done this you can switch back to your target language and the files will be ready for translation. 
 
I agree it could be more intuitive. Two things would make sense in my opinion: 
 
1. Prompt the appropriate batch task when files are added for translation 
2. Switch to the first target language in the list after preparing the files

 Good to know this additional information. It sounds as though you have created a single file project and not saved it yet so the batch tasks are not available. Is this the case? How did you create your project?

 As a translator this is a perfectly reasonable question and we could do more to help users with this process as I already mentioned. But as you have just seen from Evzen not everyone wants things to work the way you do.

Francis Lambeets 
 In all versions prior to Studio 2019 adding files worked by switching to the source language and preparing your files for all the languages in your project. In 2019 it's more automated, but neither are particularly difficult. I recorded a short video here to explain both approaches:
