How to add variables to the global settings?

Question

Dear Studio users, 
 Words like Ste., P.O. Box, are usually segmented incorrectly. I normally add these to the variable list in Language Resources so that Studio would include the text following Ste. and Box after P.O. in a segment. 
 It appears I am doing this in the project level. Is there a way to set the variable list at the global level so that I do not need to repeat this for every new project?

Hi Chunyi, The Language Resources settings are found in the translation memory settings. So it's not happening at the project level but rather at your TM level. You would have to add these to each memory you use. Though it would be the Abbreviations list you'd need to add these two to, here: 
 Once you've added Ste. and P.O. to the abbreviations list in each of your translation memories, you should have no more incorrect segmentation after these (unless they're proceeded by a tag with another word and no space in front of it). All the best, Ali :)

 This is incorrect. You must have installed it at some point as this is definitely not installed with Studio. It is a plugin however so only runs from within Studio now.

The variables list is stored in the TM. When you go to your settings and look at the "Language Resources" you will find the place where you add the resources held in a language resource template. So it holds these items for that particular TM: 
 
- variable List 
- abbreviation list 
- ordinal follower list 
- segmentation rules 
 
Note that I said these are all specific to the TM you opened. The Language Resource Template is a tool to be able to create a TM based on a set of resources that you maintain on their own. So they don't belong to a TM yet. You can create a TM based on a template of your choice and once done the resources in your template become part of the TM; but the language resource template is still completely separate. It was only used to populate the TM. 
 
The variable app can simplify the adding of lists and editing of lists in a TM OR in a language resource template. So, if you have created a variables list for a particular project then you can now import them into an existing TM OR an existing template.
