Please elaborate in more details... what source format it is? Why exactly should italics be inserted? A screenshot is worth a thousand words, of course...

Somehow I doubt that it is REQUIRED... I rather suppose that it's some extra requirement of a client not really understanding what is localization about...

Spanish spelling rules are different from English. In Spanish, the use of italics is advised when we transfer English voices into Spanish without translation. For example, bridge (game), cricket, etc.

the old standard for underlined/italics was to use _underscores_ and for bold was *asterisks*. ASCII-days... You simply can't store formatting information in XML for example, unless it has embedded HTML.

Hi Marga, did you ever find a suitable solution for this? To be honest, this is one of the reason I hate using Trados. In every other CAT tool I can very easily change the font, but no, not in Trados. In Trados you have to jump through hoops to do just about anything useful.

Marga never came back to help solve her mystery, but it's actually quite simple and consistent.  A couple of things to note:

1. not all file formats support formatting so there is absolutely no point whatsoever attempting to add formatting to a file format that doesn't.
2. always work with tags showing unless you are just reviewing a translated text.  This way you can see the tags and you'll realise that all tags work exactly the same way in Studio irrespective of what they are for.  Learn this and life is simple.
