Getting Started Beginner, Part 1. Segment won't autofill as described in textbook. Studio 2017 SR1 issue.

Hello,

Something incredibly basic is not working while using the sample files in 2017 SR1.
A segment that should autofill as described in the textbook does not autofill. However, the same segment will autofill in 2015 SR3. To show this, please access a 60 mb powerpoint below containing a couple of embedded videos.

The first slide covers the Creating TM and starting a translation in MS Word. In Studio 2017 SR1, I make a TM, then start translating, and segment 3 won't autofill even though the very similar segment 2 was confirmed and added to the TM. I show that the automation settings are set to default. Other places autofill but segment 3 doesn't. The second slide shows the same conditions but done in Studio 2015 SR3. The autofill works normally.

Why is this only happening in Studio 2017 SR1? For this sample project, I've created a new, blank TM with default settings and translated using the default settings. To the best of my knowledge at least. Hope someone can help.

Best regards,
Keenan

  • Hi Keenan,

The training courses for Studio do not cover the recent functionality additions released in Studio 2017 SR1, thus causing different behavior than the one described in the guides.  My recommendation is to go through the training guides with the LookAhead feature turned off, as that is the feature being most likely to cause different results than the ones described in the course. You can disable the feature from Options -> Editor -> Automation settings page. Just un-check Enable LookAhead.

    Thank you,

    Iszabela Turi

  • Iszabela,

Thank you. This worked. But WHY did it work? This seems less of "The training courses for Studio do not cover the recent functionality additions" than just "new functions keep interferring with standard functions". This is not the first time someone has told me to disable new key features in order to regain basic functionality. Although wouldn't my auto-propigation settings have to be lower than 92 for something of 92% to be autopropigated? The default settings are at 100 yet it worked. Anyway...

Is this bug well known? Is it a bug? My sales representative in Japan didn't know (or didn't tell me) about this issue when I participated in the getting started tutorials a couple weeks ago.

    Thank you.

    Best regards,
