I have installed Trados 2006 with upgrade 2007 on my new PC but I cannot see the Trados buttons in Word 2007....why?

Do I need to install Windows 2010?

or buy a new upgrade? or the new programme 2017?

Will all my previous translation memories be read by the new programme?

  • Hi ,

As I said, we have not tested this software for a very long time so perhaps it doesn't like the W10 environment... I have no idea! Try the solutions for getting your word templates sorted as I shared in the KB article. If that doesn't help then perhaps you'll get lucky and find a user who also still runs this old stuff successfully in your environment. I run Workbench and TagEditor without a problem... but I can't run the trados toolbars in Word as these are simply not working in my version of Word. So I can't really help you more I'm afraid.

    Maybe someone else will?

    Regards

  • You need to put the Trados8.dotm located in C:\Program Files (x86)\SDL International\T2007\TT\Templates to Word startup folder... which should be C:\Users\<yourname>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP. This is normally done by the Trados installer, I believe... but I remember it failing to do that on newer Windows versions, or something (it looks like the developer rather hardcoded the 2k/XP-style paths instead of querying them from the system properly, so it stopped working on newer versions)
Alternatively, you should be able to add the Trados template to your Word using the Add-Ins button on the Word Developer tab.

You may need to ask uncle Google for additional details...
