Failed to save target content: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Question

Since my company has upgraded to the latest version of Studio (2017 SR1 - 14.1.6284.6), a number of my colleagues have experienced problems creating the target file. The error they get is the dreaded 
 
 This happens particularly with Excel files, more specifically xlsx, so the workaround we're currently using is to save the file in an older format. 
 Any help would be greatly appreciated, as this solution is less than ideal!

Hi Paul, 
 
Problem solved! It was a issues with the Studio default settings. Unticking Excel 2007-2013 and ticking Excel 2007-2016 seems to have fixed it.

Have you tried the knowledgebase link in the error as well as the community one? That should search with a little more detail than the generic top line and might help with a more useful article. 
 
Can you open the excel file as a new single file project and save target before you even translate it? If you can then can you pretranlsate it and save immediately again?

I don't know how familiar you are with Studio, so apologies if this is a basic clarification. Make sure you do this in your File -> Options BEFORE you create your project... or in whatever Project Template you might be using. Changing the filetype after the project has been created won't have any affect.
