Failed to save target content: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Since my company has upgraded to the latest version of Studio (2017 SR1 - 14.1.6284.6), a number of my colleagues have experienced problems creating the target file. The error they get is the dreaded

This happens particularly with Excel files, more specifically xlsx, so the workaround we're currently using is to save the file in an older format.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as this solution is less than ideal!

  • Hi ,

Have you tried the knowledgebase link in the error as well as the community one? That should search with a little more detail than the generic top line and might help with a more useful article.

Can you open the excel file as a new single file project and save target before you even translate it? If you can then can you pretranlsate it and save immediately again?

    Regards

    Paul

  • Hi Paul,

Many thanks for your swift reply, and apologies for the delay in getting back to you.

I checked the knowledgebase and community links, and the only answers seem to be workarounds rather than solutions. Currently we are having to convert the original file to an older format in order to export it, which certainly isn't ideal.

I've tried saving target with an untranslated file, and the problem persists. It seems to me that the latest version of Studio doesn't like .xlsx files!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Nick
  • Hi again Paul,

    An update to this:

I've been playing around, and have now isolated the problem. When the .xlsx file for translation has had rows or columns hidden, it will not export. Files with no hidden content are fine.

Clearly this is a bug in Studio, so could you please pass this on to the relevant people?

    Many thanks,
    Nick
