That manual line break (soft return) segmentation rule

Question

I've seen the soft return segmentation rule answers in this community but I still have questions. I'm using Studio 2015 Pro. 
 1. You are supposed to type a period in "Before break" and click Regular Expression. 
 2. You are supposed to type 
 in after break (should I or should I not click Regular Expression?). 
 3. What about Break characters? Do I leave blank but click "Include closing punctuation"? The soft returns appears with different ending punctuation, but mostly semi-colons. 
 Please note the soft returns often appear with a space before the manual line break symbol.

 . 
 That's it.
