dependency file not found

 Hi,

I have come across the same problem as has already been described in several other questions and that is that the 'dependency file' has disappeared all of a sudden.

I have found an answer (in a question that was answered 12 days ago) that seems to apply exactly to my question. But when I follow the suggested solution, I get the notification 'path does not exist'.

How could I solve this problem? It might help to know what the dependency file is exactly and how I could look for it without knowing its name?

Thanks in advance

  • Hi Sophie,

As at this stage i dont know the exact workflow/processes prior to this error message- i thought the following may be useful (and hopefully helpful)-

    gateway.sdl.com/.../communityknowledge

Also there is (albeit) a rather old thread where this issue was discussed and where registry cleaner programs were deleting temp files when the PC was in active for a while - or the PC/Studio was not closed down (overnight)

    www.proz.com/.../242074-dependency_file_not_found.html

Could you let me know if any of this helps (and also what OS you are running along with Office version/AntiVirus/registry cleaner etc.

  • Hi Steve,

I use windows 8, office version is 2010 and antivirus is TREND Micro. I have looked for several solutions. First of all I have removed c cleaner from my computer, this program removes temp files every 24 hours, so this might have been the cause of the problem. I will test this with some new files I need to translate to see if the problem pops up again.

However, even if this may avoid the problem in the future I still have several files without their dependancy files and have not been able to find a solution. I have tried to browse for the files and then open the original source file on my computer (which is an excel file, xls and not xlsx), however when I then try to finalize my translation I get the message: 'Invalid File Format'. Even when I try to 'save target as' as suggested in one of the solutions I get an error message saying 'Invalid File Format'. How could I avoid this?

All this would not be a problem if i could work around it and eventually finalize my translation and get an excel file as a result, however it seems that even that is impossible at the moment.

    Kind regards

    Sophie
  • Hi Sophie,

Is it possible for you to share one or two of the (original files) with me - as long as these do not breach any NDA's etc.?
You could email them to me swhale@sdl.com

Also just to eliminate another theory-
What happens if you re-save the original file xls file (into an older format) and then import this into Studio?
If you can import the file- just run a pseudo translation (under batch tasks) and then save as.

    Does this work?

  • Hi Steve

The xls file is actually already in the oldest format I can save it in (the 97-2003 format). I could try importing it again, but don’t know whether this would have any effect when it was already in this format when I imported it the first time.

I have also started working on the new files and it seems that the same problem keeps posing itself, even now that I have removed c cleaner from my computer the ‘temp file’ is missing again. (these are the files I only started working on yesterday, after removing c cleaner). I have spoken to a friend of mine who knows more about computers than I do and he suggested re-installing the software. Would this be an option to solve the problem? How could I do this without losing my translations?

Thank you in advance for your answer.
